Florida experienced strong economic growth during the twentieth century and today has a diverse economy. The main mineral resources are phosphates, oil and natural gas.
Agriculture is an important sector of the economy; the main productions include citrus fruit (the two thirds of American production), as well as melons, watermelons, vegetables, sugar cane, soybeans, corn, and cattle raising (dairy farming, fattening). Forestry and fishing (crustaceans, swordfish, freckles) are also very active.
Industries
The industries are varied: printing, agri-food (fruit juices, canning factories), armament and defense, electrical and electronic equipment, chemistry (fertilizers, plastics), pharmaceutical, textile and clothing industries, wood-based industries (papers ) and tobacco. On the eastern coast, at Cape Canaveral, NASA’s large space center is also installed.
